The United Services
Recreation Club, is a private members ‘club tucked away in a green belt near
Tsim Sha Tsui/Jordan and must be one of Hong Kong’s best kept secrets!
The USRC was established in 1911
for British military officers. And like most military enclaves, it was blessed with
an abundance of that rarest Hong Kong attribute: space. With the British forces
long gone, the club has switched to civilian mode but made the sensible
decision to keep numbers in check to allow members to enjoy all that greenery.
The club has restaurants, tennis and squash facilities, a particularly fine
bowling green, plus three old-style swimming pools and a playground. A new addition
is a garden marquee and terrace that can accommodate up to 300 guests and is a
charming venue for wedding receptions, corporate events and other
celebrations. Outdoor venues are rare in
this town and the minimum charge for this space is a fraction of the cost of
better hotels. Actually with the money save you can splurge on the honeymoon! Booking the marquee requires a minimum food
and beverage spend of HK$50,000 plus 10% service charge for non club members.
